Following back-to-back losses to kick off their 2024 Men’s Hundred campaign, London Spirits earn their maiden win of the edition by beating Welsh Fire by three wickets. Liam Dawson’s three-for coupled with Nathan Ellis’ witty bowling made the chase easier for the home side in London.

Winning the toss and deciding to field first yielded desirable results for captain Liam Dawson as Welsh Fire lost a couple of wickets with the powerplay score reading 32. The introduction of Liam Dawson and Nathan Ellis in the attack further dented the visitors, losing Luke Wells (23) and Jonny Bairstow halfway through the innings. Glenn Phillips and Tom Abell withstood for 22 balls before Dawson returned to break the stand, followed by Andre Russell and Ellis assisting the skipper to make further inroads. With the score reading 86/7 in the 18th set, the tail added just eight runs to end with 94/9 in 100 balls.

In response, the Spirits got off to a rocky start, courtesy of a lethal opening spell from Matt Henry who removed Michel-Kyle Pepper, Adam Rossington, and Ollie Pope by the sixth set amidst an 18-run powerplay. Dan Lawrence tried to soak pressure but Ravi Bopara failed to assist him, losing his wicket to Haris Rauf in the ninth set with the score reading 39/4. With almost run-a-ball required rate, Shimron Hetmyer accelerated the innings with a couple of fours and a six before Lawrence and Andre Russell followed suit in the 16th set. With another wicket falling in the next set, the situation became tricky for the Spirit before Hetmyer smacked a six off Rauf to chase down the paltry total with twelve balls in hand.
