VIDEO | Gunathilaka plays “ramp shot of the year” to leave commentators shell-shocked
Danushka Gunathilaka’s off-side play is a sight for sore eyes and naturally, when he played a perfect ramp shot, it was bound to create some buzz. The southpaw premeditated a Billy Stanlake full-ball by coming to the pitch of it, and then smashed it over the keeper’s head for a perfect paddle six.
The definition of T20 cricket has massively gone under a metamorphosis with new shots being added to the dictionary every now and then. And when it was a Sri Lankan opener premeditating a shot to paddle it along the way, the mind is bound to go back to one of the flashiest openers the world has ever produced - Tailakratne Dilshan.
It was as if Danushka Gunathilaka paying a touching tribute to the founder of “Dilscoop” himself when he negotiated a 146kph Billy Stanlake delivery on the go. The Queensland cricketer pitched it up and at the stumps, but Gunathilaka moved across the stumps to use the pace for his already-envisioned six.
He used the pace of Stanlake and then lapped it over the keeper's head, and as everyone watching, the ball soared over to land next to the sight-screen. Before the ball disappeared among the pure black screen covering it. The commentators were screaming in delight after watching the shot and it was the pure class on offer that made them go gaga over it.
Incredible! Gunathilaka ramps Billy Stanlake... for six!
