Manchester United may have spent heavily this summer to change their team, but their main goal has been to keep their core intact. Having already lost Marouane Fellaini and Ander Herrera, the Red Devils have desperately tried to keep Paul Pogba and David De Gea. While they’ve somehow managed to do that with the former, things with the latter haven’t gone well.
The 28-year-old is arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the world but has endured a torrid time over the last few months. A large portion of that has been thanks to the unrest over his future at the club. But, with his current deal with Manchester United expiring at the end of this season, things have certainly gotten complicated.
Reports had earlier revealed that a deal was reached between de Gea and United, but that has been negated by the Mirror, with it reporting, that negotiations have failed. They’ve failed to reach a bonafide breakthrough and the club now have no idea whether a deal is possible. This does prove problematic for the Red Devils, as it allows the Spaniard to talk to any interested clubs in January, which puts the pressure on the club.
