Durand Cup | Real Kashmir FC, Mohammedan Sporting march on with comprehensive wins

Real Kashmir FC managed to outplay former Durand Cup champions Army Green by an impressive scoreline of 4-0 in Kolkata. Meanwhile, Mohammedan Sporting thoroughly brushed aside the Indian Navy outfit by a 6-2 margin on the back of a five-goal haul by in-form striker Arthur Kouassi.

A day after Mohun Bagan pulled off a memorable win against ISL franchise ATK in the 129th edition of the Durand Cup, Real Kashmir FC and Mohammedan Sporting also registered comprehensive wins against Army Green and Indian Navy on Saturday in Kolkata. 

At the Kalyani Stadium, Real Kashmir made their way to a 4-0 win against Army Green as they inched closer to secure a semi-final berth in the ongoing domestic league. Despite all the socio-political tension back home, the Kashmir-based outfit made their way to their second successive win took which them to the top of the group C table with six points from two matches. Chesterpoul Lyngdoh scored a brace (3rd, 39th), while Singam Subash Singh (33rd) and Khaidem Vicky Meitei (90+2nd) scored one each against the Bengaluru-based Army outfit who were down to nine players in the second half. Real Kashmir will play ISL champions FC Goa in their final group stage fixture on August 17.

Meanwhile, having suffered a defeat to Mohun Bagan in their opening Durand Cup fixture, Mohammedan Sporting bounced back with a 6-2 win against Indian Navy thanks to a five-goal outing by striker Arthur Kouassi. Ugandan recruit Mudde Musa scored the only other goal for MSC in the 62nd minute. Mohammedan Sporting will face ATK in their final match of group league on August 16.
