Anil Kumble gets around 1 crore as BCCI pays off dues

Former Indian cricket coach Anil Kumble received a sum of Rs. 1 crore as BCCI paid off his dues bringing a closure to his controversial episode with the side. The board also announced payments for Ishant Sharma, India’s Women team and a one-time payment for former cricketers.

As a part of their monthly exercise of publishing all payments above Rs 25 lakh slab, the BCCI has revealed on their official website the amount they paid to Kumble settling his dues. The former Indian coach has been paid somewhere in the region of Rs 1 crore, which includes approximately 48.75 lakh each as "professional fees" for the months of May and June.

Ravi Shastri took over the charge of the Indian cricket team after the Kumble had stepped down from the position two days after India’s Champions Trophy final loss against Pakistan in London in June. He had stated his relationship with captain Virat Kohli ‘untenable’ as the cause.

Under the one-year tenure of the 46-year-old, India did really well, winning Test series in West Indies (2-0), followed by a home win against New Zealand (3-0), England (4-0), Bangladesh (1- 0) and Australia (2-1). The men in Blue had also won eight ODIs and lost five during this period.

Shastri, who was India’s coach before Kumble, has signed a contract with team India that keeps him as their head coach till the 2019 World Cup. He had to beat the likes of Virender Sehwag and Tom Moody for the job.

Apart from Kumble, fast bowler Ishant Sharma has also been paid close to Rs 1 crore, who is no more regular in the Test squad. India’s women cricket team has a sum of Rs 45 lakh each following their brilliant finish the ICC Women’s World Cup as the runner-up.

A one-time payment of Rs. 35 lakh each was also announced for former cricketers that include the likes of Vivek Razdan, Sarandeep Singh, Salil Ankola, Reetinder Sodhi, Yograj Singh, and Robin Singh.
