Cheteshwar Pujara says, At some stage, you need to sledge.

Cheteshwar Pujara believes that sledging assists in unsettling the opposition batsmen and thereby helps in lifting the spirit of the team's worn-out bowlers. But the Saurashtra batsman has cautioned that it should be done only when required and should never become personal.

“I am still learning the art of sledging. Sledging is something which has to be done if the need arises because at times the bowlers do need some help, but it can’t be personal. So, if we can help as fielders and talk to the batsmen, then a little bit of sledging… At some stage, you do need to sledge,” said Pujara in an entertaining dialogue with teammate Ajinkya Rahane.

The ‘run-machine’ has been in fine form over the last year or so, scoring 1617 runs at 67.38 in the last 11 months which also includes 6 Test hundreds. And skipper Virat Kohli can't stop praising the Saurashtra local for his consistency as he considers him to be one of the best batsmen in the Indian side.

"Pujara and Ajinkya are our two best Test batsmen, especially in the middle order. They've been doing so well consistently. Pujara, I would give him more credit because he only plays one format for India. And to be able to have that hunger and passion day in day out, working hard on his game, coming out and having those consistent performances takes a lot of mental strength," said Kohli.

"All of us have, but Pujara's game has gone to another level. If you see last season, continuing now, he's got about 1500 runs which is outstanding. All credit goes to how hard he works on the game, and how he thinks about his game as well," Kohli added.

Finally, commenting on his knack of scoring big runs, Pujara said, “I have always felt that getting a hundred is not always enough".
