World Billiard Championship | Sourav Kothari defeats Martin Goodwill to enter semi-final

Indian ace Sourav Kothari managed to secure a place in the semi-finals of the World Billiard Championship after beating local favourite Martin Goodwill and has set up a clash with the World Champion David Causier now. In the other semi-final, Rob Hall will take on Peter Gilchrist.

India had a bright day in the office at the World Billiards Championships on Thursday, when Sourav Kothari won 933-551 against the local challenger Martin Goodwill and in the process notched up a big break of 378 points, steering himself into the semis. Apart from this, Kothari had breaks of 210, 98, 53 and 52.

Earlier in the competition, Kothari had defeated Paul McGowan of Scotland 653-163 in the round of 32 and comfortably got past Ryan Mears of England 532-375 in the pre-quarters with fine runs of 110,169 and 97. Sourav is the only remaining Indian in the race to the coveted title of WBL. The other semi-final would be played between Rob Hall and Peter Gilchrist. 

Eyeing the hall of fame of Sourav in 2017, he had won a gold at the Asian Indoor Games, beating former world billiards champion Praprut Chaitanasakun by 3-1. He has also been known to be a silver medallist at the World Billiards Championships, bronze medallist at the WBL Billiards (Long Up) championship.
