Star Indian shooter Gagan Narang has revealed, via an Instagram post, that his father has sold his house so as to buy a rifle for his son. Narang, who put up the post on Father's day, went on to add that his family stayed in a rented accommodation for almost 20 years after that.

On the occasion of Father's Day, Narang put up a long post on social media platform Instagram to share an emotional tribute to his father. Narang, who won the Bronze medal at the 2012 London Games in the Men's 10 m Air Rifle category, revealed that his father had sold his house in order to get his son a rifle. He further added that over the next 20 years, his family had stayed on rent.

"Twenty years ago this man standing next to me sold his house to buy a rifle for me, not because he knew I would go on to win medals for the country one day. But it was when I came back home crying from the shooting range because the owner of the gun I was using sold it to another shooter," Narang wrote on his Instagram page.

"We stayed on rent for 20 years. He didn't know how far I would go in the sport back then or that I would shoot a world record, be world number 1 and go on to win an Olympic medal for India. He did what a father needed to do to bring a smile on his son's face."
