Patna Pirates’ coach Ram Mehar Singh has asserted that his team can’t win matches, in spite of Pardeep Narwal doing well, only because of the repetitive mistakes by the defence. Ram Mehar has also added that the defence is more prone to mistakes in the last four or five minutes of the games.

Despite Pardeep Narwal becoming the highest scorer of the game last evening with 19 raid points to his name, Patna Pirates failed to register a win against Dabang Delhi KC. With Patna leading in the second half, Delhi all-rounder Vijay came in for a raid and surprised everyone by picking up five points in the super raid and that brought back Delhi in the match. It was a defensive error for which the Pirates had to pay the price and they got all-out soon after that and Delhi took the lead and eventually won the game 43-39.

Patna’s coach Ram Mehar Singh lashed out at his defenders again after the game and said that his defenders can’t continue to repeat mistakes and expect the team to win.

“I agree with your assessment and feel the same way. Regardless of how many points Pardeep scores for the team, we cannot win if our defence continues to make the same mistakes,” Ram Mehar told reporters after the loss.

The senior coach went on to explain about the mistakes by the defenders and said that the last few minutes are crucial in which his defenders should control better. In the last game, his three important defenders Neeraj Kumar, Hadi Oshtorak, and Jaideep had six, four, and three unsuccessful tackles respectively.

“It’s just that after the first four or five matches of the season, our defence kept making mistakes at crucial junctures of the game. If you look at our raiding numbers, then it’ll reveal that we are fourth highest in that table and we have the third most tackle point as well as Super Tackles this season.”

“So, I feel it’s just about the last few minutes of matches, which we could have controlled better defensively. If we could have prevented games from changing in the last few minutes, then we would be higher in the standings,” Patna coach signed off.
