Harmanpreet Singh gets the draw for India ‘A’; Sangita Kumari hands junior hockey women victory
Harmanpreet Singh scored in the 50th minute through the penalty corner to equalize for India A’s score against South Korea while Sangita Kumari scored against Britain to get a victory for U-23 hockey women’s team. In the U-23 men’s category, India lost 1-3 to Great Britain in five-nation tournament.
The visitors continued their good form into the second quarter, creating potential opportunities to score. In the 23rd minute, an infringement by Indian defender saw South Korea win a penalty corner which was converted again by Jang Jonghyun to take a 2-1 lead. A structured defence saw South Korea hold on to the lead all through the second and third quarter. However, a penalty corner in the 50th minute saw India 'A' equalize the score-line through drag-flicker Harmanpreet Singh's goal.
In U-23 five-nation tournament on Sunday, Indian junior men's hockey team lost 1-3 to Great Britain. The Indians, who had earlier defeated Ireland 5-0 failed to match up with their British opponents. After a barren first quarter, Great Britain took the lead through Tim Nurse in the 19th minute. Great Britain extended its lead in the 34th minute through Duncan Scott before pushing in another in the 50th minute through Cameron Gold. Pardeep Singh scored a consolation goal for India three minutes from the hooter.
