The Only Player to Captain an IPL Team Without Playing in IPL

An IPL team had a captain who never played an IPL match. This record is being held by Adam Hollioake, who captained the team in six games but none of them were in the tournament. It happened way back in 2008, when he was a part of the support staff of the Kolkata Knight Riders.

If there is a player who is leading an IPL side, he will surely be playing in the IPL. But there has been a rare occasion, where a player led an IPL team but he has never played a single game in the tournament, or the Champions League T20. And this record is being held by none other than Adam Hollioake.
After the IPL 2008 season, Kolkata Knight Riders finished in the league stages with a mediocre performance. Adam Hollioake was a part of the support staff, and the team was set to go on a tour of Australia. They were not set to play against the Aussies, as they were scheduled to go against Queensland for an unofficial tour comprising of six T20Is.
Since it took place after the Indian Premier League, the key players stood at a rest. And to lead a young side, Kolkata Knight Riders chose Adam Hollioake, who was a part of the support staff. The team had several young names such as Iqbal Abdulla and Siddarth Kaul.
The tour of Australia turned out to be one to forget for Kolkata Knight Riders and Adam Hollioake himself. The team was looking forward to him as the one with a captain potential. But under his captaincy, an experimental team lost the series by 5-1, where they lost the first five games consecutively.
What's more shocking to this is the fact that Queensland had Andrew Symonds at their side. He was dropped from the Australian team right before this series, as the Aussies were set to go against India. Michael Buchanan was the top run scorer for Kolkata Knight Riders, while a young Siddarth Kaul led the team's wicket-taking charts.
