Chennai Super Kings were finally able to get their first win of the IPL 2026 season against Delhi Capitals. And the main hero for the same was Sanju Samson, who smashed a century for the team. His ton against Delhi became the first for CSK in 8 years to come in a winning cause.

‌The Yellow Army is now much happier than ever, as their team has managed to grab the first win of the season. The start of the tournament was surely challenging, but they have now found the rhythm back. The team went against Delhi Capitals at their home ground and were also sent to bat first in the game.
This is where Sanju Samson finally announced his arrival at Chepauk. While Ruturaj Gaikwad stayed at the other end to anchor the innings, Samson went against all the bowlers with full acceleration. He was able to score a century for the team in this game, which was also his first in the Yellow jersey.

Generally, the CSK fans don't get very happy when a player of their team scores a century. The reason behind the same is genuine, as for the last 8 years, none of the centuries scored by any player had come in a winning cause. But this time it was Sanju Samson who scored a century.
Chennai Super Kings also had the home ground advantage and their bowlers completely took over the Delhi batsmen. Jamie Overton was the star for the team with the ball, as he took 4 wickets for the team. Along with that, the other bowlers such as Gurjapneet Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, Noor Ahmad, and others were able to contribute well to the team.

Delhi Capitals were bowled out for just 189 runs in the 20 overs, allowing Chennai Super Kings to win the game by 23 runs. This was Chennai’s first win of this season, as Samson received the Player of the Match award for the same. Along with that, it was the team's first win in 8 years when a player scored a century for them.
Let's take a look at the last game when a CSK player scored a century in a winning cause.

IPL 2018 Final

Fans will be shocked to know that the last time a century came in a winning cause for them was the IPL 2018 final. The team had made its comeback after being banned from the IPL for two seasons and eventually reached the finals. Their clash was against Sunrisers Hyderabad, as CSK bowled first in this game.
The team showcased aggressive batting approach, which further helped them to reach a total of 178 runs for the loss of 6 wickets. While no batsmen managed to score a half-century, Shikhar Dhawan and Yusuf Pathan were the top scorers, as they were close to their fifties.
The chase started with Faf du Plessis opening with Shane Watson. While Faf lost his wicket early, Shane Watson continued to dominate the SRH bowlers. He received support from Suresh Raina and Ambati Rayudu at the other end, as they anchored while Watson took command to score runs at a rapid pace.

He was able to score 117 runs for the team in just 57 balls in this massive chase. In his knock, he also smashed 11 fours and 8 sixes, powering Chennai Super Kings to chase down the target in 18.3 overs with 8 wickets remaining. This was Chennai's last win when a player scored a century.

Centuries in Losing Cause

Ruturaj Gaikwad was among the top batsmen for Chennai Super Kings after the team had won the IPL 2018 season. He started playing for them in 2020 and is now also leading the side. But the two centuries made by him in the Indian Premier League have come in a losing cause. Fortunately, Sanju Samson was able to break the jinx as he scored a century in a winning cause for Chennai Super Kings.
