The runner-up of the previous season, Punjab Kings, have now received a strong start in the current season. The team went against Gujarat Titans in their opening game, as they even had the home ground advantage. Punjab Kings won the toss in this game and they eventually decided to bowl first.
While Sai Sudharsan lost his wicket early, Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler handled the game well. Both of them got dismissed in the 30s, as Glenn Phillips partnered with Washington Sundar to add some runs on the board. Eventually, Gujarat Titans were able to post 162 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
Punjab Kings got off to a good start in the chase. Arya lost his wicket early, but Cooper Connolly and Prabhsimran Singh handled the game well. After Prabhsimran’s wicket, the middle order fell quickly. But Connolly maintained himself on the crease till the end, leading Punjab Kings to a last over win.
