CPL 2024 | Twitter questions Azam Khan’s fitness after headshot leads to rarest version of comical dismissal
If sporting comedy was an art, Pakistan cricketers could’ve been the Picasso of it. Azam Khan became the latest addition to this list after getting dismissed hilariously in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League clash between Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Antigua and Barbuda Falcons.
Playing their first game of the edition, the Warriors won the toss and elected to field first. Gudakesh Motie stood out in the bowling unit with a three-fer as Fakhar Zaman, Imad Wasim, and Kofi James failed to convert their starts. With 169 runs needed to win, the openers failed to get a good start, but Shai Hope’s 41 stabilized the stage before Azam Khan walked out to bat. However, he failed to make much difference in the chase after getting out in a comical fashion.
Having scored nine runs off just eight balls, Azam looked to slog a back of a length delivery into the right-hander across the line. The white rock off Shamar Springer’s bowling earned a steep bounce and beat the willow’s outside edge to thud at the helmet’s grill on the third ball of the twelfth over. Azam was late to react on it and failed to control his poise, while at the same time ricocheting the dying ball with his blade into the stumps. Subsequently, the wicketkeeper-batter wrung his neck in pain before trudging off the field. Soon after, the Twitterverse blamed Azam’s fitness and found the dismissal rare and funny.
