England captain Jos Buttler has been sidelined from the T20I series against Australia due to a calf injury. The 33-year-old had already missed The Hundred competition, and now, this injury casts doubt on his availability for the upcoming ODI series against Australia starting Sept 19 in Nottingham.

‌Jos Buttler remains absent from the cricket field with an injury following England’s disappointing ICC World T20 campaign as he is now set to miss the crucial T20I series against Australia. During The Hundred tournament, Buttler didn’t feature in a single game for Manchester Originals with Phil Salt stepping in as captain. The Salt-led side finished last in the league, losing seven games. A similar situation has unfolded in the national team, where Salt is set to lead the Three Lions in the T20I series.

Jamie Overton has been called up to replace Buttler in the squad. The 30-year-old bowling all-rounder has taken 96 wickets in 141 T20 matches, though his batting record remains modest with 1345 runs in 97 innings at an average of 20.

With the ODI series following the T20I matches, Jordan Cox has been named as cover in case Buttler does not recover in time. Cox has played four List A matches, scoring 98 runs.

The three-match T20I series starts on September 11 in Southampton with the five-match ODI series kicking off in Nottingham on September 19.
