Canada beat Ireland by 12 runs in the Group A encounter at the Nassau County in New York. Canada managed to score a decent 137/7 after being asked to bat first while they were clinical in defending the runs with Jeremy Gordon and Dillon Heyliger picking up two-fers and sealing the deal for Canada.

‌Choosing to bowl first worked well for Ireland against Canada as they managed to dismiss Navneet Dhaliwal and Aaron Johnson within the powerplay. However, Pargat Singh and Dilpreet Bajwa scored 37/2 by the end of the powerplay. Craig Young dismissed Singh in the seventh over, and Gareth Delany took Bajwa's wicket in the ninth over, rattling Canada's middle order. With Shreyas Movva and Nicholas Kirton at the crease, Canada reached 63/4 in 10 overs. The duo stabilized the innings with a 57-run partnership, taking the score to 110/4 in 16 overs. Just as they were gaining momentum, Barry McCarthy dismissed Kirton, and Dillon Heyliger took another crucial wicket, providing Ireland with much-needed breakthroughs. Ultimately, Canada managed to score 137/7 at the end of 20 overs.

In reply, Ireland got off to a decent start with openers Andrew Balbirnie and Paul Stirling taking the score to 25/0 in five overs. However, wickets started to fall quickly as the duo were dismissed in the sixth and seventh overs. The situation worsened for Ireland when Saad Bin Zafar scalped Harry Tector and Lorcan Tucker within 10 overs, leaving the score at 50/4. Canada's bowlers continued their impressive form, dismissing Curtis Campher and Gareth Delany in the middle overs, reducing Ireland to 74/6 in 15 overs. However, the momentum shifted when Mark Adair and George Dockrell smacked 36 runs in three overs, bringing the score to 110/6 in 18 overs. With Ireland needing 28 runs off the last two overs, the stage was set for a thrilling finish. Kaleem Sana bowled a clinical 19th over, conceding just 11 runs. Canada skipper Saad Bin Zafar entrusted Jeremy Gordon with the final over, with 17 runs to defend. Gordon immediately made an impact by dismissing Adair on the second ball of the over.  Additionally, he bowled an exceptional last over, conceding just four runs as Canada registered their first T20 World Cup win, beating Ireland by 12 runs.
