Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has revealed that he would like to see cricket in the Olympics in the coming years and that he has spoken to IOC President Thomas Bach about the idea. Tendulkar was talking at the Mumbai launch of the book 'Dipa Karmakar - The Small Wonder'.

Indian cricketing great, Sachin Tendulkar, was present at the launch event of the book 'Dipa Karmakar - The Small Wonder'. The book, based on young Indian gymnast Dipa Karmakar who represented the country at the 2016 Olympics in Rio, revealed a different side to Karmakar’s life and the hardship she faced in order to make it to the grandest stage of them all, the Olympics.

While speaking at the launch, Tendulkar was asked if he would like to see cricket in the Olympics in the future to which the Mumbai-born batsman replied in a very optimistic manner.

"Being a cricketer, I will say that the game needs to be globalised, without any doubt. Some-time ago, I was there at the 2016 Rio Olympics. I also spoke to Mr Thomas Bach (IOC President), and told him that I feel cricket should be included (in the Olympics).

"When cricket is included, one needs to give enough time for the rest of the teams to prepare. He (Bach) was under the impression, five days how can we ... cricket is one of those few sports where there are multiple versions -- ODI, T20, T10, by the time they (IOC) introduce cricket in the Olympics, -- it might be 5 overs or whatever. But I think, the game (cricket) should be there (in the Olympics), being a cricketer I would want that to happen. I am looking forward to it, without any doubt," said Tendulkar to PTI sources at the event.

Meanwhile, Karmakar, who shot to fame with her performance in Rio 2016 revealed that she will be competing to do the same in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games as well. Karmakar has been in and out of competitions with an knee injury off late but revealed that she will be contesting the Olympics qualification event later this year in March.

"I will be competing in Olympic qualification event in March. Now the criteria for getting qualification has changed drastically. This criteria is very tough for the countries like us, who are not developed much in gymnastics. But, I am preparing and trying at my best (to get that qualification)," Karmakar said.
