Second-seed Yuki Bhambri has become the only Indian to reach the quarter-finals of the Chennai Open ATP Challenger tennis tournament, after securing an easy 6-2, 6-3 win over compatriot Sidharth Rawat on Wednesday. The highest-seeded Indian will face Japan's Yasutaka Uchiyama next.

Bhambri was in control of the game since the word go, and never really let that intensity slow down throughout the game. While Rawat tried hard to give Bhambri a challenge in the game, the latter, who has a superb serve, broke his rival’s serve twice in each set and played fluently from the baseline while managing to hit strongly off both flanks that kept Rawat on his toes.

Now, Bhambri has been joined by top-seed Jordan Thompson of Australia and the No 3 and 4 seeds Duckhee Lee and Mohammed Safwat. The Indian will now take on Japan’s Yasutaka Uchiyama, who beat Cem Ilkel of Turkey 6-4, 7-5.

Thompson played a classical all-round game to send qualifier Wishaya Trongcharoencharikul of Thailand packing in straight sets 6-3, 6-2. The Australian will now take on Serbia’s Danilo Petrovic, who advanced when seventh-seeded Enrique Lopez Perez of Spain conceded after having lost the first set, for a place in the semi-finals.
