That's the first leg over and done with and goodness me. I'm exhausted but more importantly, the second leg has soooo much promise. We're barely knee deep into the knockout stages and already this year's CL is primed for some prima donna action. But this is it from me, so till next time, goodnight, goodbye and until next time.

The first 15 minutes we struggled a bit, but you have to go through the storm, and then an even first half and I think we started the second half really well and the goal comes at a bad moment for us because I think we were dominating at the time. But I think our response was brilliant.

"It’s a really good start for us. I think in the four years we are here with Pep we had some surprises and even the players, they don’t really know until the game starts what we need to do. We had some lesser moments but in a quality game like this you’re going to struggle sometimes but I think we fought really well.

GAME, SET AND MATCH, MAN CITY!! They said he overthinks, which he does. They said City don't have game-changers and up stepped Kevin De Bruyne. If this is the Belgian's last game for City, then he'll go down as a club legend. If it's only the first in another 200 games, then he'll still go down as a club legend. Raheem Sterling transformed that side, the same way taking off Vinicius Junior changed Real Madrid. Zidane has a lot to think about but City have two away goals.

GAME, SET AND MATCH, OLYMPIQUE LYON!! They've done it. They've beaten Juventus in Lyon and goodness me, this was some game. Juventus walk away without an effort on target in the entire game and that says everything. 10 shots to 14 for Juventus. 2 on target to 0 for Lyon and it showed how toothless this Juventus side looked. A lot of issues for Sarri going forward but wow, Lyon proved to the world just what they can do.

Momentary halt as the stewards deal with a pitch invader and Ronaldo doesn't look happy at all. Ref decides it's a drop ball and the game continues.

Time has flown away here with just two minutes left on the clock. This should be an interesting end to the game as Ronaldo heads a decent chance just wide of the mark. Frustration from everyone in a blue shirt because it does look like they'll walk away with a loss.

An awkward effort there but either way it's a chance for Real Madrid. They're running out of time and Ederson jumps dramatically to let the ball go out of play.. Three minutes of added time in Madrid with five minutes of added time in Lyon.

Drama all across Europe. This one has seen not one but four penalty claims all turned down but fair play to the ref, they've all been soft ones. Ramsey and Ronaldo had genuine claims for penalties but neither were given and at the moment, Juventus are losing.

This is all unravelling like a kitten with a ball of thread. Like an evil genius' bad plan in an overly dramatic movie. City are in real trouble and it's meet with agreement from the fans sitting behind Ederson's goal as Real Madrid pepper his goal with shots. Corner from up and Modric steps up to take it. Not the best game from the Croatian and the corner is utterly useless.

Lyon now prepares to drop deep and play on the break as they replace Ekambi with Martin Terrier and the Villarreal loanee has been rather good. He's done just about enough but should have had more shots on target with him opening to firing from range.

It was City's best play of the game and boy should they've made it count. Riyad Mahrez with a couple of really dangerous shots on goal/target but it should have been more. Now, City have all to work for and Real Madrid have become rather good at defending!!

Finally, Juventus do something. They've got the ball and have pinned their hosts inside their own half. Not good manners from the visitors but they don't really care as they move the ball around with robot precision. Don't make it count however and off go, Lyon.

RIYAD MAHREZ IS THROUGH BUT COURTOIS SAVES!! THE ALGERIAN was through on goal, clean through and City are growing in confidence. Somehow, the pass is perfectly timed and Mahrez fires off balance and Courtois makes a relatively simple save. It should have found the net, why didn't it find the net?

Both sides want the ball but City are willing to sit back and play on the break. That doesn't come as a surprise to anyone but what has is the fact that Jesus is playing as a left-winger. The does mean Bernardo Silva and Kevin De Bruyne are the main strikers in a 4-4-2. Another Pep move.

Ronaldo draws a foul on the left side of the Lyon penalty area. It’s in a good position but Pjanic fires it into the wall and the game moves on. Lyon break, break again and then eventually win a corner. It's a deeep one but it comes to nothing. Lyon needs a corner coach.

CHANCE MANCHESTER CITY!! Kevin De Bruyne leads the break at break-neck pace and there seems to be little the Los Blancos can do to catch up. He has Mahrez with him and nobody else, shocking given that Jesus is playing as the striker but the Algerian cuts in and fires his shot wide of Courtois' far post. The Belgian was screaming at his backline but no response.

More of the same here in France with the early ball dominance but Lyon are trying to do more and look like they might challenge for something more than just the one goal lead. Maybe a two or a three goal lead might suit them going back to Turin..

The approach at Spurs last season was to keep it tight and not get blitzed. Given how open City were in previous CL games, I thought that was quite sensible. This is clearly the same thing, and given their issues with counter-attacks this season it does make sense

HALF-TIME AND THIS HAS LIVED UP TO THE BILLING!!

Isco has been brilliant. Manchester City have done relatively well. Injuries, feisty tackles and wonderful football. It's been fun.

Juventus have been sleep-walking their way through this game. Not just sleepwalking but a couple of snorts and snores as well from the Italians. They need something else in that second half.

ME THINKS THAT WAS CLEARED OFF THE LINE!! City nearly scored there and it was via Gabby Jesus as he fired in a shot from a corner. Sergio Ramos knocks it into his net but Fede Valverde does enough and clears the ball well clear. He then berates his captain who stares him down with a death knock.

Two minutes of added time in Madrid and three minutes of added time in Lyon. Still a lot of football left on the clock people, you're going nowhere!!

Nothing is going City's way and the Bernabeu seem to be loving it as they do some kind of ritual dance. Or is it a replica of Iceland's Viking clap? It's something and everyone seems to be having an absolute ball.

CHANCE FOR LYON!! IT could, should and had to be 2-0 there to Lyon and Ekambi cannot believe he has missed. He picked Bonucci's pocket, charged forward and had to fire the shot on goal against Pole Szczęsny but instead cuts it high and wide. Too high and wide.

Fiesty and fun, this game has been something else. Riyad Mahrez diving in his own box, Laporte off injured again, Sergio Ramos not doing the shithousing but Nicolas Otamendi, Gabriel Jesus playing left-back, Bernardo Silva playing striker, and even Isco playing well. That last one is the shocker of the tie because the Spaniard has been knocked down every chance any Real Madrid manager has gotten.

The goal has shell-shocked Juventus and they're responding in like by handing Lyon the ball and letting them do a lot of the work. They're happy with that task and move the ball dangerously around the Juventus box, firing in shots and crosses at will.

HOUSSEM AOUAR HAS BEEN A BRIGHT SPARK BUT IT'S LUCAS TOUSART WITH THE GOAL!! The Frenchman has been a menace for Juventus with his passing and once again a wonderful cross finds Tousart, who knocks it home. Nothing Juventus could do to stop the shot but the cross is another matter altogether.

FERLAND MENDY WITH AN ABSOLUTE FEACH OF A CROSS AND BENZEMA HITS EDERSON!! A great cross in and the Frenchman fires his shot right at Ederson. Credit to the Brazilian because he made a great move to stop that but the save might have come at a cost. Aymeric Laporte is down and it doesn't look like he can continue.

It does see a collision however, between two Juventus players as Alex Sandro steps on Matthijs de Ligt and it will see the Dutchman get a little treatment on the sidelines. He's bleeding rather profusely on the sidelines and it takes the physios a while to stop it. The game has continued on.

Oh that's a hand to a throat. Marcelo doesn't get a proper grip, however, and thus denies us the chance to see our first chokeslam in football. He does get a yellow card and Dybala is back on his feet within a minute. The free-kick is about as useful as Marcelo's complaints...

This is a fun game. And no I'm not just saying that because I've been asked too because it's actually a fun fun game. The battle between Varane and Jesus is brilliant. De Bruyne vs Real Madrid is even better but it's the team vs team that makes it fun.

Like two Ivan Dragos fighting up against each other and while they know everything about each other, they're still figuring each other out...

CHANCE MANCHESTER CITY!! A fantastic pass sends Gabriel Jesus free and clear but somehow Varane meets him there. But the Brazilian won't be beaten this time, cuts in and fires a powerful shot right at Courtois. The Belgian expected something else and managed to parry the ball out despite being half way to the floor.

Still no real threat from Lyon but they have the ball and charge forward with intent. It's a tidy little spell by the club and somehow Maxwell Cornet wins a corner for his efforts. CHANCE AND IT'S TURNED ONTO THE POST WITH A FANTASTIC CUT-BACK HEADER!! AOUAR'S CORNER IS DAMN NEAR PERFECT AND KARL TOKO EKAMBI IS THE MAN WITH THE SHOT.

Woj beaten all ends up in that goal and Lyon with the best chance of the night!!

A real measure of how much Real Madrid actually care about treating Manchester City is shown as their center-backs treat this game as possibly the most adventurous walkabout in history. They've spent more time inside Man City's half than they have their own with Varane already firing off a shot.

Real Madrid have started the better and the more threatening side but for all that threatyness, it's Raphael Varane with their first shot on goal. He's a defender and it's not a one in a million hit, so it went high into the Bernabeu. 

Free-kick to Juventus and there seem to be only two options. None of them are named CR7 but instead a Miralem Pjanic and a Paolo Dybala. Anyone know who they are? The man named Pjanic fires it in and it comes to nothing but a corner. That's played short, fired into the box and again, comes to nothing.

Stop start game here but we've finally gotten a little movement between either side and it's shaping up to be a really nice battle between the two. Already Juventus are causing problems but somehow Lyon are winning the ball back rapidly in the midfield and then break at break-neck pace!!

The real question is which French left-back called Mendy who started his career at Le Havre will win the battle of the flanks? Ferland starts for Real, with Benjamin in for City. I hope it's Benjamin especially after his injury concerns over the years but we all know it's gonna be Ferland.

City break and Raphael Varane is there to stop it. Wonderful defending from the Frenchman but more importantly, he showed immense speed there to beat Gabby Jesus to the ball and do it with style. Defending with a purpose, the Paolo Maldini way.

We're still in France, because Maxwell Cornet is down. He had a nasty collision with a Juventus player and is still down receiving treatment from the physios. Early problems for Lyon, it just might be more problems for Rudi Garcia.
