Parupalli Kashyap managed to beat Ren Peng Bo in three games to qualify for the quarter-finals of the Canada Open Badminton Tournament in Calgary. Another Indian men’s singles player Sourabh Verma has also made it to the top eight of the competition by registering a win against Sun Fei Xiang.

Indian badminton players Parupalli Kashyap and Sourabh Verma continued their amazing form at the Canada Open Super 100 tournament as they won their respective pre-quarterfinal games. Kashyap was up against World University winner from China Ren Peng Bo and the Indian fought hard in the first game but lost 21-23.

However, Kashyap staged a brilliant comeback in the next two games and despite some valiant efforts by the Chinese, the 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist won the second and the deciding game by 21-23, 21-19 to book a place in the quarters. Lucas Claerbout will be Kashyap’s next opponent in the top eight of the championship.

Verma, in another pre-quarterfinal match, got the better of China’s Sun Fei Xiang in three sets 21-13, 15-21, 21-15 to book a place in the next round. After winning the first game by a huge margin, the Chinese shuttler made a comeback in the second to push the match into the decider against Verma. He will now take on another young Chinese shuttler Li Shi Feng in the quarters.
