A person’s character is often judged by the way he/ she handles pressure. While many succumb to adversity, Rishabh Pant is a different breed in himself who opted to execute a bold reverse sweep against a pacer amidst India’s struggles against New Zealand int he morning session of the Bengaluru Test.

Following a rain-washed opening day in the second Test at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru, the weather cleared up for the toss to take place early the next day. Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s decision to bat first under overcast conditions did not yield sweet results for the side as the Kiwis capitalised on the pace-friendly conditions by extracting three quick wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Sarfaraz Khan before Drinks. With the score reading 10/3, Rishabh Pant opted for a bold approach leaving everyone stunned.

On the second delivery that he faced, Pant clipped one length delivery towards long leg for a couple of runs to get off the mark before facing four dot balls. Looking for scoring options under difficult batting conditions, the southpaw intended to execute a reverse sweep on a back of a length delivery from Matt Henry on the eleventh over’s fifth ball.  But he failed to middle the stroke as the cork lobbed off the top edge beyond the wicketkeeper’s right, earning Pant a single. What impressed the mass in the Twitterverse was Pant’s audacious approach to opting for bold choices despite the team’s adversity.
