‌Tim Southee reprimanded for breaching ICC code of conduct against West Indies

New Zealand pacer, Tim Southee has received a warning for breaching Level 1 of ICC Code of Conduct code while playing against West Indies in the Brian Lara International Stadium, Tarouba. He used a hand sanitizer on his way to the dressing room and therefore incurred a demerit point.

The right-arm pacer was found guilty of violating Article 2.2 of the Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which states "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during an International Match."

In addition, the 35-year-old also received one demerit point that would add to his disciplinary record. This is his first negative rating in the past 24 months, the ICC stated in a recent release. Southee hit a hand sanitizer dispenser while trudging off the field after getting dismissed for a golden duck off Alzarri Joseph.

"New Zealand player Tim Southee has been handed an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Group C match against the West Indies at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad on Wednesday," ICC's statement read.

Southee was one of the three changes that New Zealand made from the embarrassing defeat against Afghanistan. Although he bagged two wickets against West Indies, the Black Caps failed to chase down 150 runs and got eliminated from the tournament after Afghanistan’s comprehensive win over PNG.
