South Africa got their only breakthrough on Day 2 with Goerge Linde dismissing Ajinkya Rahane but Rohit Sharma held the crease and bettered his previous highest score of 177 in Tests. He was cruising towards his double hundred, when at 179*, in Dane Piedt’s over to Sharma an appeal was heard. Rohit tried to push the ball for a sweep that slid off the pitch but couldn’t make contact with the bat.
The appeal didn’t impress the umpire, Richard Illingworth, as he was sure that it pitched outside leg. Much to everyone’s surprise, Faf du Plessis came forward and pressed for a review when even the bowler wasn’t convinced. The Proteas skipper seemed so sure of his challenge against the on-field not-out decision that he raised his forefinger up to gesture ‘out’. But that act was ridiculed by ball-tracking that clearly showed the ball pitching outside leg indeed and Illingworth's decision was upheld in the end. The umpire signalled a leg-bye and Faf was left clearly embarrassed.
Unlucky Faf du Plessis!

Why did you review that faf?
Looks like South Africa are giving up!!
Ambitious review against an lbw appeal from Faf and Co. Rohit continues to bat!
— Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan)
South Africa have 1 review remaining, India have both intact.
Faf was so confident about it!!
DRS time! South Africa have taken a review after a LBW decision against Rohit was turned down by the umpire

Completely stupid review!!
There was a time not so far ago when I looked at Faf & knew he was in charge, an aura Graeme Smith & Cronje also oozed.

He appears to be a shadow of that version of himself. Helpless smiles, non-enthusiastic reviews, hopeless expressions. Now, he is merely there.
