An official of the Indian Meteorological Department in Ranchi has predicted that rain might play spoilsport on Day 2 of the third Test between India and South Africa after bad light and heavy showers ruined the final session of Day 1. However, he predicts it to get better from Monday.

After two great sessions of play, one in control of South Africa and India dominating after, play was disrupted by bad light with a minimum of 22 overs left in the day’s schedule. As a result, 8 extra overs have been added to the Day 2 proceedings. But the bad weather conditions are not just limited to Day 1, as the local weatherman in Ranchi, on Saturday, predicted that rain might affect the second day’s play as well in the third and final Test between India and South Africa Test, PTI reported.

Even during the second session, there was a slight drizzle, however, it didn’t interrupt play then. Before the advent of bad light, followed by heavy rain, that stopped play just six overs into the third session. India managed to put up 224/3 on board with the aid of Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane’s exceptional batting.

The weatherman has cited the cyclonic circulation over east-central Madhya Pradesh and neighbouring areas as the main reason behind this.

“There is a possibility of thundershowers and lightning at isolated places in Ranchi. Chances are less by Monday onwards,” an official of the Indian Meteorological Department, Ranchi, was quoted as saying by PTI.
