Sam Curran has revealed that he was “pretty bleak” when he dismissed Kane Williamson having been dismissed off a golden duck in England’s first innings. The English all-rounder has also gone on to share that he is a competitive person who looks to deliver irrespective of how the pitch plays out.

Young England all-rounder Sam Curran couldn’t digest his second-ever golden duck in his 12-match Test career. Curran was undone by Tim Southee full delivery which caught him in front of the stumps. Curran, whose first golden duck was in the subcontinent against Sri Lanka, made it up for his poor show with the bat by picking up two crucial wickets with the ball. The youngster cleaned off New Zealand owner Tom Latham trapping him leg before to create an inroad into the Kiwi batting lineup.

His second wicket was a big one as he was successful in trapping the big fish, Kiwi skipper Kane Williamson, towards the end of day two. Curran made the ball bounce from a full length as Williamson gloves it while trying to leave it alone. Later, Curran revealed that he was quite bleak when he dismissed him given his performance in the match till then. The Northampton lad went on to share that he always looks to make things happen in the middle.

“I was pretty bleak when it happened. luckily enough when you bat and bowl you can try to take some wickets for the team. You could say that I like to make things happen in a game. I’m a very competitive person, so I like to get in the battle even on a wicket that may not suit me. If you’re just going to sit back and let them do things against you, I feel I won’t succeed.”

At the end of day three, England have managed to give away the upper hand they had gained, having removed the top five batsmen, over the hosts as their sloppy fielding and not so disciplined bowling has led to the Kiwis’ taking a 43-lead with 4 wickets in hand and set BJ Watling at the crease.

How often do we see the Indian skipper awestruck by the opposition’s brilliance on the field? The frequency of that is presumed to be low when playing Bangladesh, who don’t sport too many good fielders, are your opponents. But all rare occurrences took place at once and it’s worth a watch.
