England coming up against Windies has almost always guaranteed entertainment and this time has been nothing different. From Chris Gayle getting his mojo back in national colours to sensational Sheldon Cottrell breaking into the scene with his five-wicket haul at Bridgetown, Windies have looked like the team to beat ahead of the World Cup.
However, England are no pushovers and, in all probability, are the favourites in this summer’s extravaganza. And they showed their class in Windies conditions on Wednesday with Jos Buttler bringing the hosts to the sword in magnificent fashion. He spared none of the bowlers hitting as many as 12 sixes in his 77-balls-150-run innings.
The wicket-keeper batsman took a special liking towards Cottrell in the last five overs where he hit the bowler for three sixes and a boundary in two overs. The incident happened in the 49 over when Buttler had just hit is tenth six of the innings. Cottrel’s full-toss ball saw the batsman getting under it before blasting it over the ropes of the deep mid-wicket.
A morbid looking Cottrel had stood there for some time after the shot was hit as Buttler came to meet partner Ben Stokes mid-pitch. And it was here when Buttler noticed Cottrel staring at him and decided to mock his salutary celebration with a smirk. Stokes enjoyed it too.
Buttler salutes... 😂
