Ganguly picks Tendulkar and Dravid in his all-time eleven

Sourav Ganguly has picked Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid in his all-time XI and chooses Ricky Ponting as the skipper of his side. Ganguly has decided to go with England opener Alastair Cook and left out Virender Sehwag from the list, which features only his contemporary cricketers.

Ganguly had chosen former destructive Aussie opener, Matthew Hayden to open the innings with Cook, who edged out Virender Sehwag from Ganguly’s thoughts on account of the number of runs he has scored at a young age.

The wall of Indian cricket, Rahul Dravid was picked at no. 3 while batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar came in at no.4. The former Indian skipper picked Jacques Kallis as his all-rounder at no.5, followed by Sri Lankan legend Kumar Sangakkara, who will double up as a wicketkeeper- batsman. Ganguly further went on to say that he wasn’t necessarily following a particular batting order as he named Ricky Ponting as the captain of his XI at no.7, owing to his terrific record and because is “probably the best tactical person in the sport.”

Having chosen an all-rounder in Kallis already, the veteran southpaw picked Glenn McGrath at no.8, owing to his phenomenal record in Test cricket and followed it up with Protean pace-gun Dale Steyn at no.9 because of his wicket taking ability. He finally picked Shane Warne and Muttiah Muralitharan to round off his eleven.

Ganguly’s all-time XI is certainly a fantasy team and would take some beating on any given day.

Here is the team:

1. Matthew Hayden

2. Alastair Cook

3. Rahul Dravid

4.Sachin Tendulkar

5. Jacques Kallis

6. Kumar Sangakkara

7. Ricky Ponting

8. Glenn McGrath

9.Dale Steyn

10. Shane Warne.

11. Muttiah Muralitharan.
