ATP Rankings | Sumit Nagal goes ahead of Ramkumar Ramanthan

SportsCafe Desk

After some tremendous displays in the last one month or so, Sumit Nagal was rightly rewarded with a stupendous jump of 16 places in the ATP rankings taking him two places ahead of compatriot Ramkumar Ramanathan. India’s top-ranked tennis player, however, is still Prajnesh Gunneswaran.

It was Sumit Nagal’s longer than expected run in the US Open that saw the India youngster earning as many as 35 valuable points. Consequently, he became the second-highest ranked Indian in the ATP world rankings released on Monday. He is now sitting at the 174th position, ahead of Ramkumar Ramanathan.

Nagal gained a huge traction after he ran into the legendary Roger Federer in US Open’s first round and even managed to take a set off the former World No. 1. Nagal now has 284 ATP ranking points while Ramkumar is five points behind with an aggregate of 277.

Ramanathan has had an underwhelming season so far. He lost to Filippo Baldi in the qualifiers of the US Open, and against the French pair of Quentin Halys and Tristan Lamasine in the Cassis open Provence where he partnered Evgeny Karlovskiy following that. He would be currently facing the Turkish pair of Arda Azkara and Burak Bilgin.

Prajnesh Gunneswaran, however, continued to be India’s top-ranked men’s singles player and has gained three spots to be in 85th position.
