French Open | Juan Martin del Potro, Novak Djokovic, Stefanos Tsitsipas, Stan Wawrinka qualify for Round 4
Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro have made it to the fourth round in the men’s singles event at the ongoing French Open by winning their respective matches on Saturday. Stan Wawrinka, Alexander Zverev and Stefanos Tsitsipas have also qualified for the next round of the competition.
World No. 1 Djokovic got the better of unseeded Italian opponent Salvatore Caruso with a staright set 6-3, 6-3, 6-2 win. The Serbian will now play in the fourth round of the tournament with an eye on making it to the quarter-finals of the Grand Slam. del Potro also registered a comfortable straight set-win against Australia’s Jordan Thompson. The Argentinean has qualified for the fourth round after beating Thompson by a comfortable margin of 6-4, 6-4, 6-0 and will meet Russian 10th seed Karen Khachanov next.
Alexander Zverev defeated Serbia’s Dusan Lajovic 6-4, 6-2, 4-6, 1-6, 6-2 in five sets to book a place in the last 16 of the tournament. The German tennis star will cross swords against Italy’s Fabio Fognini to book a place in the quarter-finals at the Roland Garos.
Stefanos Tsitsipas also booked a place in the top 16 with a hard-fought win on Saturday against Filip Krajinovic. Tsitsipas defeated Krajinovic and became the first player from Greece in 83 years to make it to the second week of the French Open. Stan Wawrinka, who was the champion in the 2015 edition of the Grand Slam, will also feature in the round of 16. Wawrinka had to struggle hard to register a 7-6(5), 7-6(4), 7-6(8) win against Grigor Dimitrov in the third round.
