After Roger Federer backed out of the French Open for the third consecutive year, he invited a lot of criticism but Andre Agassi has voiced his support for the Swiss maestro in his decision. Agassi stated that he wants Federer to be careful so that he keeps playing for as long as possible.

For the third year in a row, Roger Federer, who has won 20 Grand Slam titles, decided to skip the French Open to conserve his energy and his knees for another tilt at Wimbledon, a major where he has enjoyed most of his success. While it attracted lots of criticism from multiple fans and former players, Andre Agassi doesn't think the Swiss should be criticised for his choice.

“I do not agree with those who say that it is bad for tennis because it is very difficult to win all that you have won. You are making the right decisions to keep winning. Of course, it is a shame for the fans to not see him in the clay tournaments but I really want him to be careful so that he is in the circuit much longer,” Agassi told Marca.

"I understand that you miss him when he is not there but one day he will retire and he will be missed forever,” added Agassi, who retired from competitive tennis in 2006 but still deals with some physical problems. “I try to walk a lot since I cannot run because of my knee.

"It's good for me to play tennis but the consequences come to me the next day. I’m not (into) yoga. It is true that I believe that flexibility is important but I do not do this type of exercises.”
