Murray will next face American John Isner or Russia's Karen Khachanov. After struggling for consistency in his initial matches, Murray finally found his rhythm in a rain-affected match.

Speaking of his victory Murray said, "Whoever won that first set would have the momentum as it would have been very difficult to come back in these heavy, slow conditions," as reported by Firstpost.

"He was playing much better than me in the first set. He had chances in the first set, he double-faulted on set point."

The match turned late in the first set when Del Potro failed to convert any of four set points and Murray eventually took the tie-break with his third set point.
