Ultimate Table Tennis l Maharashtra United qualify as Warriors TTC on verge of elimination
Anthony Amalraj and Elizabeta Samara played key roles as Maharashtra United won 11-10 to qualify for semi-finals while Warriors TTC sit on the brink of getting eliminated from the tournament. Chih Yuan Huang starred for Warriors with two wins while Sharath Kamal lost both his match.
Before the semi-final match, United
In the first match, Romania’s Elizabeta Samara, set the ball rolling for United by comprehensively beating Pooja Sahasrabuddhe 3-0 (11-6, 11-8, 11-1). Elizabeta Samara also defeated Sofia Polcanova 2-1 (9-11, 11-10, 11-10) in the match which was decided by golden points. Thus by winning both her matches, she accumulated 5 points for United.
Chih Yuan Huang was the star player for the Warriors as he won both his singles matches. In his first match, he downed Amalraj 3-0 (11-6, 11-6, 11-6) helping Warriors
In the second match, World No. 15 from Chinese Taipei defeated United captain Joao Monteiro 2-1 (6-11, 11-4, 11-8) to help Warriors level again at 6-6. However, in an indifferent season for Sharath Kamal, he was on the losing side yet again as he was defeated in his mixed doubles and singles match. In his mixed team match with Sofia Polcanova, they lost 2-1 (11-10, 11-9, 6-11) to Anthony Amalraj and America’s Lily Zhang. In singles, he lost against Kristian Karlsson 0-3 (10-11, 3-11, 8-11) thus ending with just one
In the last match, Hana Matelova from Warriors bt Madhurika Patkar 3-0 (11-9, 11-5, 11-6) but by then the tie was already decided.
