Legendary Indian athlete PT Usha has asked the Indian media to stop categorizing the athletes, who are participating in the ongoing Commonwealth Games, based on their regional identity. Usha’s tweet drew a great response from the general public as well as Sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore.

PT Usha, who had created history when she became the first Indian woman to enter the final of an Olympic event in the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics, is one of the most revered sporting figures in India. Nicknamed "queen of Indian track and field", Usha voiced her concern on Twitter asking the Indian media to stop categorising the athletes, who are participating in the ongoing 21st Commonwealth Games 2018, based on their regional identity.

Usha's Tweet recalled a popular moment from Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Bollywood hit-movie Chak De India. SRK, who played the role of Hockey coach Kabir Khan, asked each player from the Indian women's hockey team to introduce themselves at the training camp. However, each of the players said that they represent a particular Indian state instead of the country. This made Shah Rukh Khan, a.k.a Kabir Khan, tell them that they no longer represent a state but India. This was similar to what Usha tweeted about yesterday.

Indian sports minister Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore, who won the silver medal in shooting at the 2004 Athens Olympics, replied to Usha's tweet as he said, "India and Indians win each and every time our flag ???? goes up. @indiasports, @media_sai, states, and corporates provide facilities but we play for our country, our flag, one nation."
