Commonwealth Shooting Championships | Gagan Narang wins silver in 50m rifle event

Gagan Narang has clinched the silver medal in the men’s 50m rifle prone event at the Commonwealth Shooting Championships after a disappointing performance in the 10m Air Pistol event. Swapnil Suresh Kusale and Anuraj Singh also grabbed medals for India by winning bronze in their respective events.

Narang, who won the bronze medal at the 2012 Olympics in men's 10m air rifle, outclassed his Indian compatriot Swapnil Suresh Kusale to win the silver medal in the men's 50m rifle prone event at the ongoing Commonwealth Shooting Championships in Australia on Thursday. While Kusale bagged the bronze medal for India, it was Australian Dane Sampson won the gold.

India's Anuraj Singh doubled the bronze tally for the day as she stepped on the third placed podium in the women's 25m pistol final event. The gold and silver of this event went to host country's L Yaumleuskay and E Galiabovitch respectively.

On Wednesday, India had claimed five medals including two golds, two silvers, and one bronze medal. Indian shooters were at their best in the 10m air pistol event with Shahzar Rizvi, Omkar Singh, and Jitu Rai winning gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.

In the women's 10m air rifle event, Pooja Ghatkar clinched a gold, while her country fellow Anjum Moudgil won the silver medal.

India had started the campaign on a positive note as Heena Sidhu claimed the gold medal in the 10m air pistol category, while Deepak Kumar secured a silver in the 10m air rifle event.
