PKL 2019 | Best 7 of Kolkata Leg ft. Maninder Singh, Pardeep Narwal and Sandeep Dhull
The Kolkata Leg witnessed the rise and fall of many teams, close encounters aplenty and another home team managing to stay unbeaten which helped them jump to the second spot on the points table. So, at Sportscafe we collated a list of seven players that stood out during the Kolkata leg of the PKL.
Maninder Singh, Raider, Bengal Warriors
The Kolkata leg couldn’t have gone better for Bengal Warriors skipper, Maninder Singh, who not only managed to score 43 points but also played a crucial role in Bengal remaining unbeaten throughout the leg. In the first game which resulted in a tie, Maninder scored two points in the last raid which helped Bengal earn three points from the match. In their last game he had a series of raids in the last few minutes earning points regularly on every raid and that helped his team win that match. So, through this display of skills, he ensured his team spot in the top three for the immediate future.
Pardeep Narwal, Raider, Patna Pirates
Pardeep Narwal will soon be declared as a super-human in the Kabaddi world as he has overcome every obstacle he has faced till now in his journey as a raider. The Kolkata leg has been momentous for Pardeep as he crossed the 1000 raid points mark in Pro Kabaddi League and also got his team back to winning ways. He single-handedly destroyed the opposition’s defence by scoring 27 points in his first match in Kolkata this season. In the next match, he scored 14 points and we actually saw him strategizing and planning with the coach which proved to be really helpful for the team.
Naveen Kumar, Raider, Dabang Delhi
This youngster just keeps breaking the records for consistency as even when his whole team collapsed beside him, he kept scoring points. He has scored 13 Super Ten this season out of 14 matches he has played and this is just his second season. In the second match against Thalaivas and their seasoned defenders, he was even more untameable which one can make out when they see the scorecard which shows 17 raid points with a 74 percent strike rate. So he is a player who is a must have in any team.
Mohammed Nabibakhsh, Left Cover, Bengal Warriors
Another positive for Bengal Warriors which came from their home leg was Mohammed Nabibakhsh performed according to his potential and emerged as a strong all-rounder for his team. He has overall scored 86 points in the season till now and a lot more will be expected from him after the last home match after he managed to keep Pawan Sehrawat silent almost single-handedly. Pawan didn’t consider him as a threat when he went for a raid which didn’t go too well for him as Nabibakhsh managed to oust his five times in the match.
Sunil Kumar, Right Cover, Gujarat Fortunegiants
If one players’ consistent performance could win you matches, Gujarat Fortunegiants might have won more than their five. Sunil Kumar has been their most successful defender with 41 points who has lacked support from the rest of the team. Gujarat Fortunegiants' strong defensive approach has failed them this year despite Sunil Kumar doing well. He scored 7 tackle points in his match against Up Yoddha, he scored 7 tackle points and was the only player in the team’s defence to score a point.
Sandeep Dhull, Left Corner, Jaipur Pink Panthers
Sandeep Dhull as been performing well constantly unlike his team who has failed to register a victory in the last six matches. In the two matches, he played in Kolkata Leg he scored a High Five in both of them. He took over the orange band from Vishal Bhardawaj after this display and become the most successful defender in the league till now.
Sunil, Right Corner, Haryana Steelers
He is overshadowed most of the times as the raiders of his team who have been doing a brilliant job get most of the limelight. Though that hasn’t stopped him from doing his bit and proving that he is worthy of being in the team. He has scored 9 points in two matches with his strike rate improving in every match. He has been a crucial part of his team and if his performance continues the same way he will be a five-star defender soon enough.
