Gujarat Fortunegiants coach Manpreet Sigh is of the belief that ending the season with a win will help them gain confidence for the next season. He also said that the win gave their fans something to smile about and he also placed his bet on either Delhi or Bengal to win PKL season 7.

Two-time finalist Gujarat Fortunegiants, haven’t had the best season as they lost 13 out of their 22 matches but the win in the last match gave them the confidence to prepare better and do well in the next season. They fought hard for the win in the last match and got it because of the comeback they made in the second half. They were lagging behind by eight points when the first half ended but they compensated well by inflicting three all outs in the second half and hence ended up winning by 38-48.

“Wish we had a few more wins. The fans of Gujarat Fortunegiants who waited for months for Pro Kabaddi Season 7 and who were with us for the past three months were obviously quite upset because of our performances. So, we wanted to win for the fans. To make sure they had something to smile about. This will serve as a springboard for the future,” coach Manpreet Singh said in the post-match press conference.

Sonu Jaglan was their key man in the team getting a win as he scored his career-best score of 17 raid points with a 100 percent strike rate. He did receive good support from Rohit Gulia as well who scored nine raid points. The defence though seemed a little lackluster apart from Parvesh Bhainswal and substitute Pankaj who scored four and five points respectively.

“Sonu Jaglan has been a revelation. He has been the find of the season for us. Among all the new faces in our roster this season, he has stood out the most. He is an exciting talent and there is a lot more to come from Sonu,” Manpreet said when asked to comment about Sonu’s performance.

Even though Gujarat weren’t able to make it to the playoffs, they did give a tough fight and were in contention till a few days back. Both their departments haven’t been consistent enough and that has cost them dearly.

“The fact that we were always in the hunt. Outside of that one blemish, which was our match against Haryana Steelers in Delhi, we have been in a position to either win or tie right until the end in almost all our matches. The matches that we lost were quite close,” Manpreet said when asked about the positives Gujarat takes from the season.

When asked about which team as more chances of winning PKL, Manpreet said, “I believe all six teams can win it all. Like we've been saying all year long, isse tough kuch nahi (there isn’t anything tougher than this) and it truly is impossible to predict the outcome of any game. But, if I had to choose, I believe it’s between Dabang Delhi K.C. and Bengal Warriors,” he signed off for the season.
