PKL 2019 | We try to give all players opportunity, says Manpreet Singh
Gujarat Fortunegiants coach Manpreet Singh is of the belief that every player should get an opportunity to prove themselves and this came after Gujarat lost its second match of the season on Monday. Gujarat lost to Puneri Paltan 31-33 in an intense close encounter in the seventh edition of the PKL.
Gujarat Fortunegiants lost their second consecutive match on Monday and they are now in the fourth position on the points table. Even after a brilliant effort, Gujarat wasnât able to surpass Puneri Paltan as their defence wasnât up to the mark. They tried to make it up in their raiding but fell short of two points. In raiding Sachin Tanwar scored nine points and Rohit Gulia scored six points.Â
âWe try to give all players an opportunity. You never know who will play. You might even see a completely new seven in the next match,â Gujarat Fortunegiants coach Manpreet Singh said in the post-match press conference on being asked about their combinations.
The defence which has been Gujaratâs source of strength in previous matches managed to score only eight points. Sumit scored the most tackle points which is two whereas skipper Sunil Kumar, Pravesh Bhainswal and Ruturaj Koravi were able to only score one point each.
âWe could have played better in defence. In offence as well, but defence primarily,â coach Manpreet said.
Gujaratâs defence was hasty and hurried hence the advanced tackle attempts. They made a total of 12 unsuccessful tackle because of which they couldnât put Pune in a lot of pressure.
âWe made an advanced tackle when we had them pegged down to three men. Had we shown a little composure there, we couldâve caught the raider and even inflicted the All-Out,â Gujarat skipper Sunil Kumar stated.
