Kabaddi World Cup | India decimate Thailand to enter final

India made short work of a hapless Thailand side with a 73-20 win today in the semifinal of the Kabaddi World Cup. Nitin Tomar, Ajay Thakur and Pardeep Narwal all played their parts to perfection as India look set to defend their title against rivals Iran tomorrow.

First Half

India brought Surender Nada into their starting seven replacing Dharmaraj Cheralathan from the final group stage match against England. Captain Anup Kumar started the proceedings with a bonus point raid for India, while Thailand came up with empty raids in their first two attempts. In-form raider Pardeep took out Phuwanai Wannasaen and Ajay Thakur followed with another point in his first raid of the match.

Thailand finally opened their account at 5-0 with Khomsan Thongkham raid’s in fourth minute, but India soon registered their first all-out in the 7th minute as Pardeep Narwal tagged the last man Khomsan Thongkham with the score at 11-1.

Ajay Thakur, Anup Kumar and Pardeep Narwal then scored off three successful raids to take the score to 15-3. Ajay Thakur then went for a raid to take the score to 17-3 by the 11th minute as India neared a second all-out.Surendar Nada pulled off a brilliant tackle to complete the second all-out of the first half.

India cruised to 24-4 when Tin unsuccessfully to stop Ajay Thakur’s raid in the 14th minute. Pardeep then continued with his raids as he came back with his 5th point in as many raids. Narwal then closed in on the third all-out as his Super raid removed 3 Thai players in the last two minutes of the first half. Soon, India reached their third all-out by taking out Khunakon Chanjaroen taking the score to 34-7.

India ended the first half with the score reading 36-8 with Ajay Thakur scoring a point off the final raid of the first twenty minutes.

Second half

India made three changes at the start of the second half bringing in Mohit Chhillar, Nitin Tomar and Rahul Chaudhari for Pardeep Narwal, Sandeep Narwal and Surjeet. India completed a fourth all-out in the first minute of the second half as Ajay Thakur took out Khunakon Chanjaroen to take the score to 42-8.

The Indian defense was at its best thwarting Thailand on 5 consecutive raids. Rahul Chaudhari, who has had a quiet tournament so far, then pulled off a Super tackle all by himself with a leg hold of Chanwit Wichian taking the score to 51-8.

Pardeep Narwal soon registered his second Super raid of the match by taking out three before

Thailand finally got their first point of the second half to make it 54-9. Thailand then got their man Pardeep Narwal in the 29th minute as he was tackled by four Thailand players to take their team into the two-figure area finally.

India soon registered their fifth all-out in the next few seconds taking the score to 62-10. India completed the formality by ending the match at 73-20 to set up a final clash with Iran for the title on Saturday.
