For the upcoming England squad selection, Arsenal’s 18-year-old left-back Myles Lewis-Skelly is emerging as a surprise contender under new manager Thomas Tuchel. Despite making just eight Premier League starts, his performances have impressed Tuchel, who is preparing for England’s World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia in March.
England faces a shortage of natural left-backs, with Luke Shaw and Ben Chilwell struggling with injuries. While Newcastle’s Lewis Hall and Tottenham’s Djed Spence have featured in recent call-ups, Tuchel prefers players in their natural roles, making Lewis-Skelly a strong candidate. His recent performances, including a crucial goal-saving intervention in Arsenal’s 2-0 win over Leicester, highlight his defensive abilities.
The teenager has yet to appear for England’s U-21 team, only debuting for the U-19s in September. Arsenal’s Declan Rice has praised him as a "special talent," emphasizing his strength and composure beyond his years.
Tuchel is also considering Ipswich striker Liam Delap, who has scored 10 goals since joining the club. Additionally, former England players like Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek, and Eric Dier could see a return under Tuchel’s system, which favors a 3-4-3 formation.
