Think Manchester United’s top four prospects are over, asserts Gary Neville
Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes that the Red Devils’ chances of finishing in the top four is now slim to none after their draw against Leicester City. The Old Trafford currently sit in sixth place with them three points behind fourth place Arsenal, having played two games extra.
While the title race is now effectively down to Liverpool and Manchester City, the battle for the final place in the top four has begun to heat up with five teams fighting for the spot. However, while all five have a chance to make the cut, Arsenal currently occupy the place and sit three points ahead of fifth and sixth place Tottenham and Manchester United respectively. Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham United sit five and six points behind but the Gunners have games in hand over all.
However, in light of Manchester United’s 1-1 draw to Leicester City, hopes of the Red Devils making the cut have gone down immensely but Gary Neville believes that it’s all but over. The pundit admitted that the run-in started following the international break and that the lack of cutting edge hurt the Red Devils. The former Red Devil also added that it’s going to be a tough few months if the team can’t turn their form around.
"I think so (when asked if United's top-four prospects were over). The run-in started today following the international break. They had to start it with a win but they didn't get it. It was the way they drew the game - that was really bad out there today," Neville said, reported Goal.
"Sometimes, teams can look a bit rusty when they come back but I thought the break would work for United as I thought it would be good for players to get away from the club and then come back and give it a right go. This is going to be a long two months for those United players and fans. It's going to be difficult in their remaining eight matches if they continue in that vein of form. It was so flat."
