People blame me even when I'm not playing, says Shkodran Mustafi

Shkodran Mustafi is growing tired of the criticism demonstrated by everyone, as he thinks he became an easy target at Arsenal. The club is going through some problems at the back, conceding goals in almost every game, a reason that's been holding the Gunners out of contention in the last few years.

The German international has received a lot of backlash towards the end of last season with Arsenal struggling to keep clean sheets and fans believed that Mustafi was their biggest problem. However, he's not ready to accept those critics, stating that even when he's not on the pitch, people are ready to throw him the entire blame. In a recent interview with Der Spiegel, Mustafi went on to explain exactly what has been happening to him recently and gave some explanations to what's been happening lately.

"I had been out injured for three weeks but went into the game without a training session because the manager needed me. At half time we were 4-1 down and had made some mistakes and injured myself again. After that, I received an extreme amount of negative comments from Arsenal fans and articles were written in which I was heavily criticised," Mustafi said in a long interview with Der Spiegel.

The 27-year-old said that if the situation doesn't stop, he'll be open to a move to Bundesliga if the opportunity comes. Even so, Arsenal's demands are too high for other clubs to meet, which could compromise a transfer away from Emirates, "There were talks about leaving the club in the summer. But there was no option that suited everyone. Arsenal had some demands too," concluded the German.

It will be interesting to see if the centre-back will still play a decisive role this season for the London-based club or if he'll ask to leave in the January transfer window.
