India U-17 women thrash Hong Kong U-18 side
The India U-17 women’s team rounded off a successful tour of Hong Kong in style with a resounding 4-1 victory over Hong Kong U-18 on Saturday, making it four wins in as many matches. While only letting in merely three goals in defence, the Indian girls scored 18 goals in the tour.
On tour to Hong Kong, the Indian U-17 women’s team have had an enjoyable time. The India U-17 side, in preparation for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup to be held next year, won four in four matches.
After the initial pleasantries, the Indian girls took the lead halfway through the first half, when Aveka converted from the spot after Lynda was fouled in the area. Eight minutes later, Daisy turned provider for Lynda, who finished well for 2-0.Â
Nirmala had the chance to make it three in the regulation time left at the end of the half. The youngster’s shot, towards the top corner, was expertly saved by the Hong Kong keeper.
After the resumption of play, it was the home side that came out stronger off the blocks. The added impetus paid off and Hong Kong pulled one goal back through a Chan penalty. However, India responded quickly to regain the two-goal cushion through Anju.
Kiran could have completed a late brace, after scoring India’s fourth 15 minutes from time off Sumati’s cross, but only had to settle for one goal in the afternoon. Just a minute before that, she pulled the trigger from long range but could only manage to hit the woodwork.
