ISL 2018 | Sergio Lobera more than happy with Goa’s attacking exploits

Spanish coach, Sergio Lobera was delighted with his side’s offensive performance this season and heaped praise on his team after their recent 4-2 win against a struggling FC Pune City team. Lobera rued the dismissal of star player Ferran Corominas who was sent off in stoppage time.

FC Goa have endured a stunning start to their 2018-19 season so far, and are soaring high on the top of the table after having played four matches, with three wins and one draw. What’s has been even more impressive is Goa's free-scoring run this time round with a tally of 14 goals from four games as compared to Northeast United FC’s eight goals from the same amount of games.

Goa’s Spanish coach, Sergio Lobera has heaped praise on his side’s offensive play that has helped them establish themselves as title favourites for the ongoing season. However, the experienced European manager added that his team needed to improve at the back and not concede unnecessary goals like they did against Pune.

“Yes, I’m happy with the performance of the team. We managed to score nine goals in two home games, so far. With that point I’m very happy. But we played a very open game today where the other team were given a lot of opportunities, where the two goals that they scored were due to tiny little mistakes that obviously cost us. But this is something that we obviously need to change and improve on.

“When we go out to play, the idea is always to go out there and play on the front-foot and play an attacking brand of football. But ultimately a coach has to find the best manner to get there and do what he can do in the best possible way. So, it’s not about liking or not liking but ensuring that we do it in the best possible manner,” Lobera said in a post-match interview on Sunday.

The Gaurs made their way to a 4-2 win against a struggling Pune side who played under a new coach, Pradyum Reddy, on home turf. Leading by two goals, the home team saw their star player - Ferran Corominas receiving his marching orders in stoppage time which Lobera stated was a loss for the team.

“Evidently there’s bad news for us because we’re losing a player who’s very good and has been, so that’s obviously bad news for us. Also, particularly in the dying stages of the game to lose a player to such an instance, it always sours the victory. In my opinion had the other team not received a red card, with all the respect to the referees, I don’t think he would’ve given Corominas the red card either,” Lobera added.
