FC Cologne 1 – 0 Arsenal
Arsenal failed to get the point that they needed to guarantee top spot in the Europa League Group H as Cologne beat them 1-0 in Germany. But despite the loss, they finished first anyway, thanks to Red Star Belgrade and BATE Borisov playing out a goalless draw in the other game.
The first half of the game remained goalless, despite Arsenal creating a host of chances with a second string side. The only goal of the day was registered by Sehrou Guirassy from the penalty spot after the referee adjudged Mathieu Debuchy to have fouled the French striker. The goal helped the Cologne to claim their fourth win, in all competitions, this season. A second successive Europa League win for Cologne, however, means that the German side have their fate in their own hands and a win against Red Star Belgrade would see them qualify for the knockout stages.
