This season's Manchester derby will be one of the most anticipated matches, not just because of the history of the clubs, but also for their new signings this season. Interestingly, the managers of both the clubs have a not-so-good history, and an epic match is on the cards.

1. The start of an epic rivalry

The first meeting between the two teams occurred on 12 November 1881, when St. Marks, which later became Manchester City, hosted Newton Heath, which became Manchester United. Newton Heath won the match 3-0.

Top Scorer - Wayne Rooney - 11 (Manchester United) (including all tournaments)

Most Appearances - Ryan Giggs - 36 (Manchester United) (including all tournaments)

In 154 League matches overall, Man United have won 61 encounters, Man City have won 43 times, and there have been 50 draws.

3. The unbeatable Dane

Although he can’t claim a clean sheet, Peter Schmeichel can claim to be unbeaten in derby appearances for both the teams. He played for United from 1991 to 1999 and then for City in the 2002-03 season. United were unbeaten during the 10 derbies he played for them against City, while in his single season at Maine Road, City beat United at home and picked up a point at Old Trafford.

James Ernest Mangnall - The only man who has managed both the teams.

Bob Milarvie was the first player to represent both the teams from Manchester.

Owen Hargreaves was the latest of the players to represent both the clubs.
