IND vs NZ | Twitter stunned as Samson compensates for mediocre batting with one-handed screamer with gloves

Sanju Samson’s eye-catching batting often puts his work with the gloves to the background, but he reminded the cricketing world of his prowess behind the wickets during the first T20I against New Zealand. The Indian wicketkeeper came up with a diving effort to latch onto a single-handed blinder.

After being asked to bat, India made a gargantuan 238/7 in the first T20I against New Zealand in Nagpur on Wednesday. Abhishek Sharma led from the front, smashing eight sixes and five fours, top-scoring for the Men in Blue with a whirlwind 84 off 35. Meanwhile, Rinku Singh provided the fireworks towards the end with an unbeaten 20-ball 44 to take the side past the 200-run mark.
The Kiwis’ chase at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, however, started off on the wrong note. An accurate Arshdeep Singh sent Devon Conway packing in just the second ball after the restart, courtesy of Sanju Samson’s terrific effort behind the stumps.
The left-arm pacer bowled a fuller length, allowing the ball to shape away late from the southpaw and forcing him to play at it. The Kiwi opener got a thick edge with the ball flying lowly towards the first slip.
However, Samson showed great presence of mind to quickly put in the dive, knowing that the ball would not carry to Abhishek Sharma at the cordon. That anticipation and quick leap allowed him to latch onto the ball with his outstretched left hand, while still airborne, before landing safely to assist India’s first breakthrough.
He was pumped up as he immediately got up and looked towards the dressing room, with captain Suryakumar Yadav, applauding him with a hug. Twitter was in awe as Sanju made amends for his poor batting show with his glove work behind the stumps.
