Ashes | Twitter in splits as Smith does his best roly-poly doll impression to duck nasty bumper

To average over 60 in Test cricket for nearly a decade, being ordinary is not enough. Steve Smith's batting, in every which way, follows that tenet, even when it does not need to as the veteran showed in Sydney on Tuesday by rolling around on the deck and be left staring at his own crotch.

Australia strengthened their grip on the fifth Ashes Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Day 3 by moving well past England's first innings total of 384. The effort was led by Travis Head's nearly run-a-ball 163 at the top of the order ut the tourists fought back valiantly to trigger a mini middle-order collpapse, only for skipper Steve Smith to glue things back together with a dominant ton in his hometown. The knock featured some all-time classics from the veteran, be it his commentary on his own game or asking opposition players to turn around their glasses, but perhaps the bizarreness peaked when the captain was left rolling around the deck on his own accord to highlight the sheer fun he was having in the middle.
England's taking of the new ball had done little to disrupt Smith's momentum, forcing skipper Ben Stokes to resort to the bumper plan with executor Josh Tongue. In the 93rd over, the right-arm quick delivered a sharp one from his arsenal that jagged back at Smith to take him by surprisebut he managed to duck at the last moment, even though it threw him off balance. Yet, unlike most other cricketers that find their backs on their desk and stay prone, Smith flexed his agility by bending his back all the way such that his legs were parallel with his torso, before letting go and collapsing to the ground in a heap chuckling. A couple overs later, the 36-year-old repeated the antics with an even bigger smile in true Smith fashion, ensuirng he kept himself as well as the fans entertained even when he was not scoring runs off his bat.
Twitterati could not ask for more.
