GT vs MI | Twitter shocked as Rohit rides Lady Fortune's coattails to survive two absolute sitters

The IPL on average sees only every fourth or fifth catch be dropped -- to have two occur within six balls thus is a statistical improbability. To have the same batter on strike makes it even more unlikely, but such was the luck Rohit Sharma walked out with in the Eliminator in Mullanpur on Friday.
Mumbai Indians got off to a blistering start after opting to bat first against Gujarat Titans at the Maharaja Yudhvir International Cricket Stadium as Rohit Sharma and Jonny Bairstow took them past 50 with just four overs played. However, the scorecard barely told the whole story, and should have read a lot differently if the Titans had managed to follow the basics and hold onto their catches. Rohit Sharma was not complaining though, ending up as the beneificiary of both early spills.
The first drop came in just the second over when the former MI skipper hooked a sharp Prasidh Krishna bumper but failed to middle his shot as the Kookaburra flew straight towards Gerald Coetzee at square leg. The Proteas patiently saw the ball descend from the night sky, down his throat, and into his palms, only to bounce straight out and land on the deck much to the surprise of his teammates and the GT dugout. Little were they aware that Rohit would offer another chance just five deliveries -- this time a thick outsidge edge courtesy of an attempted wild hoick against Mohammed Siraj -- but now it was Kusal Mendis' turn to let go one of the easier chances a wicket-keeper could get.
The Mumbaikar himself could not believe the luck he had walked out, and Twitterati was all over the myriad of expressions on showcase in the aftermoth of the two potentially game-changing incidents.

Luckiest ever
Rohit Sharma, man… luckiest batter I have ever seen play cricket. Fielders just drop his catches like they’re trying to catch a soap.
