‌BBL | Twitter abuzz as Labuschagne gets inspired by Pant’s favourite shot with audacious scoop to Meredith

One of the pros of team sport is that it allows an individual to inherit the good qualities of compatriots and fellow participants. Marnus Labuschagne happened to be inspired by Rishabh Pant’s favourite scoop shot as the former replicated a similar act against a pacer to extract a six in BBL.

Winning the toss and electing to field first, Marcus Bean struck early on his first over, sending Nathan McSweeney packing. However, Usman Khawaja’s 23-run cameo was followed by Labuschagne’s highest BBL score of 77 coupled with Matt Renshaw’s 25-ball 40. Labuschagne stole the show on the day and attacked the opposition bowlers inside the power surge with a blend of orthodox and fancy strokes, one of which Pant would’ve loved to see. 

Having hit three fours in the first over of the power surge and brought up his maiden fifty of the edition, Marnus took on Meredith until the conclusion of the 15th over. The last ball of which, was a fuller one at the woods, and Labuschagne shuffled across the line and scooped it over fine leg with sheer timing on it. Recently, Pant’s social media handle engaged in a Question and Answer session where the wicketkeeper-batter revealed scoop as his favourite shot. The Twitterverse found it amusing of Labuschagne to replicate a similar stroke against a pacer, drawing inspiration from Pant’s trademark.
