The injury list in the 2025 Champions Trophy squad is rapidly growing with a plethora of fast bowlers making the unwanted list. Bowling all-rounder Kyle Jamieson has been called up for the forthcoming ICC event to replace Lockie Ferguson who has been ruled out after suffering a foot injury.

The Black Caps social handle highlighted the release from New Zealand Cricket stating the unavailability of Ferguson for the forth-coming tournament in Pakistan and UAE. Ferguson, who took part in the unofficial practice game against Afghanistan, incurred a foot injury on Sunday. Following a medical assessment, he was ruled out of the tournament, given the proximity and brief structure of the competition.

“We’re really disappointed for Lockie. Lockie is a key part of the bowling group and brings a lot of major tournament experience and we know how much he was looking forward to representing New Zealand at another major event. We wish him well for his recovery and hope he is back firing soon.” said New Zealand head coach Gary Stead.

Jamieson, who will be leaving for Pakistan on Tuesday, had a stellar outing in the New Zealand domestic circuit following his return from a ten-month hiatus due to a back stress fracture. Representing the Canterbury Kings, the tall pacer played a pivotal role in their race to the finals of Super Smash as he snared 14 wickets to become the tournament’s highest wicket-taker.

“We’ve been pleased with the progress he’s made since returning and we feel his loading over the past few weeks and his successful spells in the recent Ford Trophy match mean he will be good to go if required in the tournament.”

Previously, New Zealand was jolted by the setback of Ben Sears and summoned Jacob Duffy as his replacement. Also, Rachin Ravindra was injured during the Tri-Nation series in Pakistan but is likely to be fit for the upcoming event.
